Its crazy how far computers have come along.
The first working comp was as big as a VW,and was as smart as a common calculator. If cars had advanced as well as computers, today, you could buy a Rolls Royce for a dollar, and geht a million miles to the gallon.

Weird,but true.

Weird,but true.
At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving
twenty-five dollar cars that got 1000 mi/gal."

Recently General Motors addressed this comment by releasing the statement "Yes, but would you want your car to crash twice a day?"

1. Every time they repainted the lines on the road you would have to buy a new car.

2. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason, and you would just accept this, restart, and drive on.

3. Occasionally, executing a maneuver would cause your car to stop and fail and you would have to re-install the engine. For some strange reason, you would accept this too.

4. You could only have one person in the car at a time, unless you bought "Car95" or "CarNT". But then you would have to buy more seats.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast, twice as easy to drive, but would only run on five percent of the roads.

6. The Macintosh car owners would get expensive Microsoft upgrades to their cars, which would make their cars run much slower.

7. The oil, gas and alternator warning lights would be replaced by a single "general car default" warning light.

8. New seats would force everyone to have the same size butt.

9. The airbag system would say, "Are you sure?" before going off.

10. If you were involved in a crash, you would have no idea what happened.

Old joke, but still funny.

AMD Athlon 64 2800+ 32/64bit CPU<--------$170.00

256MB PC3200 DDR Memory (512MB Add $40)<------ suspect, , they fail to mention the brand

40G 7200RPM 2MB Cache Western Digital Hard Drive

MSI K8M800 Mainboard<-------$90.00

Shared AGP Video

Integrated 16bit Audio

Integrated 10/100 LAN/Ethernet

4 Rear USB 2.0 Ports, 2 Front USB 2.0 Ports

1 Rear IEEE1394 Firewire port

TRENDnet 56K V.92 Modem

52X CD-ROM (52X/32X/52X CD-RW add $14)<-------- why bother, DVD burners are $50.00

1 Year Parts and Labor Warranty

Base price does not include Keyboard, Mouse, or Speakers<------Did they mention NO MONITOR EITHER +$150.00 for these 4 items, and that's BARE minimum

New Athlon 64 Basic Value System $499

Another scammer system. You'll end up paying $700.00-$800.00 total just to get this system to game. Note: Shared AGP Video, that means on-board video, another words, no video card, and on-board graphics suck, they won't handle any decent FPS games.

ATI 9800 Pro 128 = $200.00
ViewSonic 17" CRT = $95.00
MS Keyboard = $15.00
Mouse = $10.00
Speakers (junk) = $20.00
OCZ PC-3200 (512) = $125.00

Oh, and they don't mention an OS. Like I said, around $800.00 (thats without a RAM upgrade!) just to have a barebones system to play the likes of Doom3, FarCry or any other decent FPS game.

The AMD64 is what they're sucking you in with, it's like putting a hemi in a Yugo :thumbsdn:

Here's what I'd consider an "entry level screaming gamer system"

  • Case: Lian Li PC-60B - $90.00

    PSU: Antec True Power 430 - $65.00

    CPU: AMD Barton 2600 - M - $70.00

    Mobo: Abit NF7-S v2 - $90.00

    GPU: Sapphire 9800 Pro 128 - $200.00

    RAM: OCZ 512 PC-3200 - $130.00

    HDD: Western Digital WD800JD (SATA 8MB) - $80.00

    DVD: Lite-On DVD-R - $60.00

    FDD: Sony MPF920-1 - $15.00

    Mon: ViewSonic 17" CRT - $95.00

    KB: Logitech Elite - $30.00

    Spkr: Logitech X-220 - $50.00

Mouse: Logitech Trackman Wheel - $25.00

OS: Your Choice: Linux or MS - Free - $60.00

Your "no hidden cost" Total $1030.00

Oh, I'm hearin' you. It just pisses me off how many companies are so misleading. What you posted is a $500.00 web browser, and most people just see the AMD64 and think they're getting a rockin' box.

this forum took a shit rapidly.

but this, gf, is incorrect:
Its crazy how far computers have come along.

Weird,but true.
the first working fully electronic computer was called ENIAC (electronic numerator, integrator and calculator iirc) and was fired up for the first time in 1948. it took up an 1800 square foot climate-controlled warehouse and weighed 60 tons. it had 18,000 vacuum tubes (roughly 10 per square foot) along with tons of wiring and other stuff. remember, vacuum tubes, at the time, were the equivalent of the transistor and diode and resistor we have today.

~ dan ~

vacuum tubes... jesus christ... and to think they still provide a better sound...
