NEW YORK (AP) — A Roman Catholic monsignor resigned as rector of St. Patrick's Cathedral after being accused of having an affair with a married woman.
Cardinal Edward Egan accepted Msgr. Eugene Clark's resignation Thursday despite the 79-year-old Clark's denials that he has been carrying on an affair with his 46-year-old private secretary, the New York archdiocese said.

"He offered his resignation for the good of Saint Patrick's and the Archdiocese," the church said in a statement. "He will not be celebrating Mass or the sacraments publicly until this matter has been resolved."

Clark has been rector of St. Patrick's in midtown Manhattan since 2001 and has often celebrated Mass there when the cardinal was away. A strong proponent of traditional morality, he blamed the church's sex-abuse scandal in 2002 on "the campaign of liberal America against celibacy."

well it was with a female secretary right?
He's the Roman Catholic monsignor of St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. He had tv show where he railed about "traditional morality, and he blamed the church's sex-abuse scandal in 2002 on "the campaign of liberal America against celibacy", while he's fuckin' the secretary.

That means he's about the biggest hypocrite out there. There's something VERY wrong with that...

Either way, this is why we're pissed of at religious types. I mean, if they're preaching to you that you're going 'against God' if you don't live a certain way and then they turn around and ignore the very rules they requre other people to abide by....
We are the first to condemn our parents for being hypocritical and yet no one really seems to notice when the clergy fuck up. Our parents are only responsible for our earthly lives...the clergy are supposed to be responsible for our eternal souls.
You know what, yeah, it was just an affair....yeah, it was just sex (if it happened in this case). For anyone else, it would have been just moral slip, hardly anything worth caring about because - yeah - we all fuck up. If it was the guy down the street, the CEO of McDonalds, your local elementary school principal, or even a president, no one would REALLy give a shit. But, my friend, this guy (and those like him) try to present themselves to the world as infallible and second only to God. They all create the perception that they are better than any of us and more wise and more knowledgable. They look down on the huddled masses that don't live up to their moral and ethical standards, and yet turn around and sample at will the very fruit they claim to be forbidden to us 'normal' people. Maybe they really do think they're better than us. Maybe they use religion as a way to control people. Then again, maybe they secretly think that the bullshit coming out of their mouths is just that: bullshit.
THIS is why we do not care for their brand of moral judgment; because they don't have a fucking leg to stand on when they want to tell ME right from wrong and then invoke the name of God to tell me how fucked up I am.

EDIT:
Oh, and of COURSE he denies he did it. You don't think he was just gonna up and 'fess up that he's basically flipping the Church the bird, do you? Those asshole priests that have been convicted of child molestation have denied that they did that too. That's the American way, deny deny deny, because unless it can be proven, it never happened. The odds are in their favor.
Point is, their fucking credibility is shot to hell.
