I'm just trying to organize my thoughts. My right rear tire shredded in such a way that the tread was about 3/4 off and it flopped around and before I could even react my rear end started fishtailing. I look back to see if I hit something, and I look up when I hear a loud deep horn (I looked back for less than a second and I was trying to control the truck, It was just a instinctual response I snapped out in under a second.) so I see the grill of a semi not very far at all away and I'm in the wrong lane. It's a two lane bridge, since I'm already in the wrong lane, and since I don't want to get nailed head on by a semi when we're both going 60 MPH I decide to just keep going to the left and hit the wall/gaurd rail of the bridge. He swerves into the other lane I came out of and I don't know how, but we missed eachother and I missed the wall too.

So I look and nobody else is coming so I swerve hard across the road, and pull off as far as I can. I then get out and start changing the tire, I didn't want to think about it, I just wanted to get off that dangerous area. So people are beeping at me because they are pissed I'm not off the road far enough, though I was off the road but only about 6 inches or so, there was nowhere to go. I'm crawling under the truck to get the spare, I'm getting nailed by rocks thrown from the tires of passing cars and semi's. I get the tire changed, get to work, and I'm still on time. It was hectic at work, and I was shaking. I realize now how fucking close I came to buying it, so fucking close. I called my wife and my best friend just to say hi, though I did tell them because they could hear the stress in my voice. I'm alive, though it was all just instinct that saved me, that and some fancy fucking driving moves. So WTFers... I'll be here to annoy you yet, sorry.

Holy shit J! I'm really glad you're alright.

It's experiences like these that make you thankful for everything. Good move on your part to call your wife and your best friend.

Is this a result of not changing the tires on your truck (I remember a thread about it)?

I wasn't driving the truck because the back brakes were making a lot of noise, but I discovered they were just really full of brake dust and a small rock was wedged in one of them. So it turned out they just needed to be cleaned. Though I have been planning on getting new tires, we have the money, we were going this Tuesday to get them, heh is that irony or just bad luck? They still have tread and everything, I think I must have hit something, though I didn't see anything. I guess it could have just ripped apart on it's own, though all the tread is still attached in one long dangly piece. Fucking tire.

It's not irony or bad luck, it's good luck! Seriously, I am a brand new driver (still have my permit) and I know what it's like to be in a perilous situation :D Three cheers for you making it out alive!

I have to give credit where credit is due. In the military I leaned to never panic, not everyone learns it there, but I did. I react surprisingly well in critical situations. Now AFTER the fact you can freak out, as I nearly did, but during keep a cool head. It's saved my life over and over.

The tires are over 4 years old and came with the vehicle, they were looking a little thin, not crazy wires popping out thin, but well worn. They were Goodyears. With my luck they were probably those ones that got recalled, but the dealership never thought to check heh. In any case, they were going to be replced this Tuesday, I was a couple days shy it seems.

Wow, I could use a drink.

Now that I have the time to think, I feel sad for the driver of the semi. It must have scared the shit out of him/her too, he reacted very well and did exactly what needed to happen for neither of us to crash! Whoever he or she was, I fucking Salute you! I would be FUBAR'd at the least!

Also no one stopped, not the driver of the truck, not the people who saw me pulled over, not even the cops. For a small town I sure felt that big city "Who gives a fuck" while the rocks were bouncing off me changing the tire, but oh well, it could have been so fucking much worse. Heh! I can bitch even after a near fatal accident! I'm such a cynic!

My wife drove here and we hugged for a bit. My daughter came too. That helped a lot.

Thanks Canadian_POV but I'm at work, I was on the way to work, and it's just fucking busy here. I'm feeling a bit ill, I hope it passes. I tried to call co-workers and the boss to just go home tonight, to no avail. I just feel weird, it'll pass I guess. What a day.
