So liberals, please, explain this hypocrisy to me.

Amy Coney Barrett is going to destroy America because of her "oppressive, fascist, religious," beliefs, being a devout Catholic, so we were supposed to both fear her judgment AND her influence on society and governmental policy, BUT...

Joe Biden, the potato that has been put forth as a "viable" candidate by the left says "his policies are based on his faith," and none of you blink a fucking eye? Are you people fucking serious?

I'm a Catholic. He's a pandering liar. He was refused Communion by a Bishop recently for his stances on gay marriage and abortion, which are completely against the Church's teachings... But "his faith" guides him... PFFT. More like he needs the Evangelical vote so he's kissing our asses... Or the left believes his posturing and should get rid of him before he takes away Abortion and Gay Marriage, and the ACA?

Hypocritical asshats on the left never cease to amaze me.

You can't trust religious people to leave their faith out of politics regardless of party.

I don't think many people actually like Biden either.

The pope is pro-gay marriage, and naturally this has pissed off a lot of Catholics. All the more reason to not trust openly religious people in office.

Actually, the Pope did not endorse "gay marriage." He recently stated that gay folks should be able to enter a civil union. I like the Pope and think he's a decent man. Still, he didn't take that "full step" and endorse MARRIAGE as that is a Catholic Sacrament. He said unions were OK so that gay folks' rights could be protected. I respect that and even as a practicing Catholic, (and I do practice my faith every day), I am not a big "anti-gay marriage" person. I think if a church wants to marry same-sex couples, that is their right, but I also believe that a church has the right to refuse to marry them on the basis of theological beliefs. The government cannot mandate that a religion recognize anything that it doesn't want to recognize if it goes against a religion's belief.

Strategy to get on the fence conservatives who lost their taste for Tramp on his side?
Most likely. I hate the hypocritical bullshit already though. If Trump pulls this off it will be a miracle and the left will implode.

Religion shouldn't even have the ability to marry, that's a secular institution once you include state contracts etc.

I don't care what you call it, so long as you respect other people's individual freedoms. Which sadly many religious folk aren't too keen on freedoms for those they deem different.

Marriage began as a religious ceremony not a secular one. The state glommed onto that because it had civil repercussions. I honestly don't care what others do as long as they don't force it on me and force my PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS and CHURCHES to participate, if they choose not to. Freedom goes both ways, but people forget that.

That nasty 'freedom of speech' thing pisses off the SJW's of the world everyday while they cry about "nazi's" trying to take it all away.

@Templar, you are fighting an uphill battle.

#1 - this is an internet forum
#2 - internet forums aren't typically religious friendly
#3 - your promoting your religion with news stories and condescension.
#4 - Matthew 7:6

It doesn't matter who wins. Trump or Biden.
America is going down hill.
As long as Goldman Sachs rules, and America is fucked by the FED, nothing will really change.
It's those guys from the Military Industrial Complex that always get away with the loot.
The entire system is corrupt.
Religion doesn't have anything to do with it.

I think there is a secret club of billionaires with their hands up every candidate's ass. They play them like sock puppets and we all dance to the tune they're singing.

Marriage as an institution predates Christianity by over 2000 yrs. It's found in civil codes dating back to ancient Mesopotamia.

I don't really care if churches marry, but the fact that it's a civil institution means they have no actual say on what defines marriage.

Freedom of Speech has long been the enemy of organized religion, Catholicism particularly. From the obvious murdering Protestants for daring to read their own bible and challenge priests, to book bannings, the dark ages, Galileo, heresy charges etc. Organized religion, but particularly the Roman Catholic Church used it's ideology to control thought and speech for literally centuries. And still does to a lesser degree, although this is a mostly an American trait.

It's extremely odd to me that a demographic that has for my entire life tried to control the media and communications through decency laws, vices through blue laws, ban books in school and public libraries, dictate pseudo-science be taught in science classes, demand harsh sentences for victimless crimes etc has the gall to speak of free speech or freedom in general.

Found this yesterday..it is a little bit of a read.

From Christian Pastor John Pavlovitz:

“Dear White Evangelicals,
I need to tell you something: People have had it with you.
They’re done.
They want nothing to do with you any longer, and here’s why:
They see your hypocrisy, your inconsistency, your incredibly selective mercy, and your thinly veiled supremacy.
For eight years they watched you relentlessly demonize a black President; a man faithfully married for 26 years; a doting father and husband without a hint of moral scandal or the slightest whiff of infidelity.
They watched you deny his personal faith convictions, argue his birthplace, and assail his character—all without cause or evidence. They saw you brandish Scriptures to malign him and use the laziest of racial stereotypes in criticizing him.
And through it all, White Evangelicals—you never once suggested that God placed him where he was,
you never publicly offered prayers for him and his family,
you never welcomed him to your Christian Universities,
you never gave him the benefit of the doubt in any instance,
you never spoke of offering him forgiveness or mercy,
your evangelists never publicly thanked God for his leadership,
your pastors never took to the pulpit to offer solidarity with him,
you never made any effort to affirm his humanity or show the love of Jesus to him in any quantifiable measure.
You violently opposed him at every single turn—without offering a single ounce of the grace you claim as the heart of your faith tradition. You jettisoned Jesus as you dispensed damnation on him.
And yet you give carte blanche to a white Republican man so riddled with depravity, so littered with extramarital affairs, so unapologetically vile, with such a vast resume of moral filth—that the mind boggles.
And the change in you is unmistakable. It has been an astonishing conversion to behold: a being born again.
With him, you suddenly find religion.
With him, you’re now willing to offer full absolution.
With him, all is forgiven without repentance or admission.
With him you’re suddenly able to see some invisible, deeply buried heart.
With him, sin has become unimportant, compassion no longer a requirement.
With him, you see only Providence.
And White Evangelicals, all those people who have had it with you—they see it all clearly.
They recognize the toxic source of your inconsistency.
They see that pigmentation and party are your sole deities.
They see that you aren’t interested in perpetuating the love of God or emulating the heart of Jesus.
They see that you aren’t burdened to love the least, or to be agents of compassion, or to care for your Muslim, gay, African, female, or poor neighbors as yourself.
They see that all you’re really interested in doing, is making a God in your own ivory image and demanding that the world bow down to it.
They recognize this all about white, Republican Jesus—not dark-skinned Jesus of Nazareth.
And I know you don’t realize it, but you’re digging your own grave in these days; the grave of your very faith tradition.
Your willingness to align yourself with cruelty is a costly marriage. Yes, you’ve gained a Supreme Court seat, a few months with the Presidency as a mouthpiece, and the cheap high of temporary power—but you’ve lost a whole lot more.
You’ve lost an audience with millions of wise, decent, good-hearted, faithful people with eyes to see this ugliness.
You’ve lost any moral high ground or spiritual authority with a generation.
You’ve lost any semblance of Christlikeness.
You’ve lost the plot.
And most of all you’ve lost your soul.
I know it’s likely you’ll dismiss these words. The fact that you’ve even made your bed with such malevolence, shows how far gone you are and how insulated you are from the reality in front of you.
But I had to at least try to reach you. It’s what Jesus would do.”

The first major step toward Liberty and freedom was to throw off religion for philosophy. Then I became too much of an asshole so I picked an agnostic style of buddhism and worshiping Jung's superior method.

I am now a reformed heathen.

You're king of underscoring my point though. Those behaviors did exist in the colonial US; it was only the formation of a federal govt, based in secular law, that placed those restriction on religion. Keep in mind that early colonist were mostly religious extremist that England didn't want.

And religious-based law still exist - blue laws for example. I can't buy alcohol before 11am or after midnight on sun (the last one is especially dumb since it would be mon) because some religious people were offended at some point.

Well.. Marriage as an institution was made out of greed, the state was influenced by the idea that debt could be plucked from the widow, the moment her husband died. So, if a man dies, and he was married, his debt is transferred to his wife. Nowadays people are getting wiser, not to marry.
Or at least marry under some conditions.

Another point is, in the USA and Great Britain, there is still a lot of old lies circulating about the catholic church. It's old propaganda, that still remains in the heads of protestants. Rome doesn't have much to tell us anymore. The Pope is an institution. A channel to publish ethical matters.
But because of the anti catholic propaganda, much is misunderstood.
For instance, Rerum Novarum is a writing about a road between capitalism and socialism. The basic idea is to let people govern themselves on a local scale.
