Democracy Now! Headline
The Federal Communications Commission has hired an anti-pornography activist and lobbyist to work as an advisor of indecency issues. The hiring of Penny Nance is expected to expand the FCC's campaign to fight what it views as indecent broadcasts. Penny Nance founded the Kids First Coalition and until recently served as a board member of Concerned Women For America. That group describes its mission as helping QUOTE "to bring Biblical principles into all levels of public policy."
Anyone else find something fundamentally unsettling with this?

other then the whole seperation of church and state has been expanded to the imposement of religious beliefs and public preaching. is all but totally banned, so having some christian activist telling us we cant watch tv shows or commercials with some sexual overtones is by law illegal?

that would be like a Catholic cop entering your house and arresting you for having sex out of wedlock because his church forbids it... a bit extreme of a difference yes but otherwise the same principle.. the FCC is supposed to be about censorship based on current public acceptance. Unbiased on what any one group finds as offensive, but on the whole.. hell in europe sex and nudity are perfectly acceptable on daytime tv.. were rather much prudes...

Ultimately letting all of TV censorship be dictated by the beliefs of a church or religious group would prolly only lead to that group controlling media at a whole.. it would start on TV.. next, movies will be restricted. maybe even books... and they tried that shit before... refusing kids to read books like catcher in the rye.. nothing like a good ol book burning to send us back 50 years..

Well, while I do think the whole thing is complete bullshit, the FCC doesn't really get to decide what's decent for ALL media. Just broadcast media like AM/FM radio and your basic free TV. They don't get to really regulate the content of cable channels, movies, print media etc...

It's still fucking bullshit. But hey, under GWB the country is just further divided into true Americans (the Christians) and "Those other people." And yes, I know that Bush didn't do this, but he has set the precedent in his administration.

This is just another example of the FCC oppressing the people and spreading their Fascist idealogy. This bitch they hired is just another tool for the religious right to spread their reach over more things until they control the government.

We should tolerate this no longer! The FCC censors anything they don't like and with the passing of the PATRIOT ACT the GOP's Fascist leaders will have complete control over every goddam thing we do soon enough. They will go to war with whoever they want and use a simple tactic that's been used, and was perfected by, Nazi Germany.

Don't say "you can't compare everything to the Nazis," because you can. If there are similiarities they can and should be compared! And just for spite, I'm going to compare everything to Nazi Germany just to piss you assholes off.

Herman Goering once said ""Why, of course, the people don't want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country." and if you think that I made this up, here's the link. Here's the source for you douche bags who doubt if he said that. That just proves that the Bush administration and the FCC are using Nazi strategy to control us and some of you sheep don't believe it.

To those who think that Bush is an infallible leader and Faux News isn't following Nazi strategies I say: look at the facts, asshole. I bet DanGeo will bring his brainwashed self in here saying that God is good and that Bush would never follow Nazi strategy, people like that are what bring this country, and all countries, under the rule of Fascists. It's those people's fault that we're all going to be ruled by Fascists, good job assholes.
