My long list of rants pertaining to computers:

Last night i'm surfing the web and what not, I get to a website and one of those annoying "install" plugin windows pops up. I click no, but this time, it says that I can't access the website unless I click yes! WTF?? I normally don't click yes, but I'm kinda pissed and I really want to see this website so I click yes. Turns out the website wasn't really what I wanted anyway.

I turn on my computer this morning, and of course it is infested with 50 different adware, spyware bots, etc. I'm getting pop ups out the wazzoo, theres new junk search toolbar installed, of course it uses one of those illegitimate search engines that only return "results" of their partner sites.

I know people praise this ad-aware program like it is god, but I personally hate it. I used it once on my old computer, the shit deleted some junk that it wasn't supposed to, and ended up messing up the internet adaptor or something. I got so frustrated debugging the problem that I finally just reformatted the whole hard drive, losing a whole bunch of data.

Today I've been working on some web development project for a volunteer, unpaid position. Of course I don't really want to be doing this, I just want to get the "experience." It's really frustrating, because I have to use a scripting language I don't have experience in. It is really hard just to find out how to do simple things, like redirect the browser or use a session variable, because the language is constantly changing, client side, server side, etc. There are many solutions posted on the internet, but only one in ten work the way I want. Plus programming in general is just a frustrating task.

I used to go to a website called experts-exchange for programming help which was pretty good, but I surf to it a few days ago and its now a pay site??! Fuck!! Hell no, I don't have that money to waste...

Of course I have no motivation for this volunteer programming thing. I wanted to find a paid internship this summer, but of course I couldn't get one. Some places only accept applicants that have a 3.0 GPA. Shit, I'm sorry that I got a C in a few gen-ed classes that have nothing to do with programming anyway!!!

One place I was extremely qualified for what they were looking for, and they called me. I talk to the admin girl, shes nice, things are going good. She connects me to some "project manager" guy. What bullshit! I hate these type of people. They know a little bit of technical stuff, but have no real experience in it, but they think they understand everything. This manager proceeds to quiz me about web programming over the phone! I'm thinking WTF, I'm honest with him I say sorry, I don't memorize intricate syntax, I don't know the answer on the spot. Its clear this guy doesn't really know what he's talking about. For one, he asks me what tags I have used in VBscript, there are no "tags" in VBscript!!! What really pissed me off was that he told me to fresh up on some stuff, he'd ask a programmer to call and interview me tomorrow. I'm looking forward to talking to someone that knows what he's talking about, I spend the night studying HTML, ASP, SQL, VBscript documentation. Next day, of course no one calls! Why can't he just tell me he doesn't like me/doesn't want me?? Lying to me resulted in no benifit to him at all.

I'm not really interested in programming anyway. I don't want to do it for the rest of my life. It is tedious, boring, frustrating, stressful. I'd rather do something more mechanical but people tell me to stay, away, the field is declining. If I do something related to computers, I'd rather do something related to integrated computing, or data engineering, but demand is lower for this. Everyone tells me "IT" is hot, and its true thats where the opportunities are. however, I don't really see much advancement opportunity. If I got a job as a programmer, the pay is pretty good but even if got a few promotions over 20 years, I'd never make enough to be rich. Shit, all I want in life is a house with a 3-car garage and enough cars to fill up that garage. Thats what this warped american society has put in my head.

This one isn't really that bad just a little annoying. Yesterday, I bid on an item on ebay with about a minute to go. I'd been following this item for a few days. with under 10 seconds to go, I'm I still have highest bid. I refresh the browser. By the time the page loads, the auction is over. And someone outbid me with 3 seconds to go!!! Shit, I need a faster internet connection.

Speaking of internet connections, what is up with ISPs ripping people off. I sign up for service over the phone a few months ago, for one free month and a regular price of 29.95. Turns out they charge me like $50 the first month!! I call them, they agree to 29.95, then next month they overcharge me again!!!!

What I really need is a new computer. One of those sleek, trendy laptops that all my classmates have. But shit, there like $3000!!! Damn, how do these kids afford this stuff...

And I just wasted half an hour typing this.... Fuck internet message boards!!! :mfinger: :D

lol, I got some of the same problems
I tried to bid on something with 1 minute to go on ebay, the next page loaded and said the auction was already closed, wtf
plus a week ago my internet explorer crapped out on me and wouldn't let me browse the internet, only use aol im or something
the dumbasses at tech support couldn't fix my problem and wanted me to take it to dell and spend hundreds to put new hardware in....I was like fuck that, I got my friend over, he's like a techi in the field...I don't know he managed to get on the internet when it wasn't working but he downloaded and reinstalled internet explorer...works fine now...that's all tech support had to say, maybe u need to reinstall explorer, but no they want u to go spend more money after wasting money on the call
kinda like mechanics, tell them something doesn't work like ur a/c, they'll want to replace ur compressor or something....or u can spend $30 like me and recharge the a/c and works like new
I hope ppl look into this stuff first before listening to mechanics and wasteing money

Yeah, exactly. I called tech support once when my printer broke. They asked for my credit card number, wanted to charge like $40 just to talk to them! Hell no, the printer barely costed more then that!!!

A local car dealer wants like $100 to change an air filter. Like $50 for "parts" and $50 for labor. Shit, I could got to pep-boys and buy a filter for $15, and install it in 90 seconds. The sad thing is, people actually pay $100 for the "genuine service."

lol, yea I know....it probably seems like it's too hard for them to understand how to do..or they don't have time..or don't want to screw it up
but I'd rather save my money, not let a shop keep it for hours or days, when it would be ready in a minute, and it's called a repair manual so u can learn...I've done allll my work on my truck, replaced many things and learned on my own
yea and the oil change is a rip off for some ppl...I actually did those for my truck, and co-workers...saved them like $20, and I can do them in about 10 minutes too, plus I don't charge thems, it's friends and the experience

OKAY...HERE IS YOUR PROBLEM.

You are all using the evil Internet Explorer browser. Don't EVER trust that Microsoft piece of junk. It crashes, screws up, and allows spyware and other nasty garbage on your system, thanks to the ActiveX plugin.

Here is what you do...

Go to www.mozilla.org

Download Mozilla 1.7

You are good to go! This browser blocks popups, it's fast and does not have ActiveX.

RA64, considering you are a programmer, I would suspect you would know about that ActiveX garbage. A guy as advanced as you has no need for M$ products.

Hypertron, that SUCKS! I have my 1.8GHz Duron OCed to 2.03 GHz, without any problems. it performs a hair better than a 2400+.

Yeah, I feel your pain. The sound is fucked up on my motherboard too...The speaker jack shorted out, and now I can only get the right channel.

Oh well...Time to buy a Sound Blaster!

kinda true, but its easier to just blame it on the computer...

I'm telling you...get Mozilla...this will never happen again...

I never blame it on the PC...I blame it on myself. I have killed stuff before...such as a 486 CPU (Damn non-ZIF sockets!).

One of the reasons I have problems with my PC is that I have a tendency to buy cheap parts...I have two power supplies sitting in my closet because the suck so bad. One is a Powmax, the other a Turbo Case (Which isn't THAT bad, it just sucks for OCing). I have a 300-watt Soyo Maxpower PSU that works like a charm and has great voltages. They sell a 350-watt one for $10 from their site...they are awesome! They put out EXCELLENT voltages, are stable as hell, but man, they are LOUD. They really are one of the best deals I have seen... They are AMD and Intel certified, too.

Anyway, Hypertron...what kind of motherboard do you have? I like my ASRock a lot...I'm a HUGE fan of Asus boards.

Yeah...I'm piss poor, and I want my audio, so I'm just going to spend $12 on a "pull" Soundblaster 128. I like the Sound Blasters because they do not depend on the CPU to do all the work for them.
