I just found out that FreeSpace 3 will NOT be released, EVER! Derek Smart no longer wanted to make it. With Volition out of the picture, it seems were are fucked.

Now it's official...I have seen THREE of the game series I grew up on, just up and die.

Descent, Freespace, and Sonic the Hedgehog. Yes, three of my favorite series of titles have been reduced to nothing.

Derek Smart...I beg of you...MAKE FREESPACE 3! Fuck what the "fanboi's" say, I know what happened with Take Two, and I trust that you can make a quality game! I have more faith in you then I would having Valve or id handle it. Derek, if you want to allow the gaming community to get a better picture of you, THEN MAKE THIS! I know you are VERY talented, and I also feel that you would be able to make FreeSpace 3 the best game planet Earth has ever seen. I want to kick some more Shivan ass!

Derek, if you won't make it, then I WILL. Just let me get out of high school, start up my company, and work up some cash. I WILL make the best space combat simulator ever!

You all seem to be forgetting that there has never been a space combat sim as good as the Freespace series. StarFox, Wing Commander, and X-Wing are crap compared to this series (And yes, I have played all of those).

To say that "It's just a stupid game, it can't be that important!" is like saying that your favorite movie series or TV show that was cancelled AT THE END OF A CLIFFHANGER is "not important." I've been losing A LOT of respect for you lately, FCC. No offense, but your current posts lack the intelligence that they used to have when you FIRST joined.

Thanks for helping to promote the game-phobic culture in America. "Proud Liberal" my ass; if you truly were one you would be saying things like "Games are works of art, and should be cherished." Games, movies, TV shows, literature, paintings, sketches, hell, even porno can be considered art. To say that art, which is essentially conveying ideas or thoughts in an entertaining fashion is "not important" is an insult to human achievement. Games have acieved something that human kind has tried to achieve since the beginning; an alternative, immersive, world. Look at cave paintings in France and you will see my point.

Also, if you would play the game, you would realize that it is a story about universal survival. As soon as one race enters "subspace," a wormhole that naturally occurs in space, you can travel across the galaxy in minutes. Naturally, you will conquer other races.

So who allows races to survive, and not be wiped out? The Shivans. Humanity was saved countless times by them, but as soon as we trespassed on other races, we were almost, maybe even, wiped out by them. The same goes for the Vasudans; our former enemies who we had to ally with in order to try to defeat the Shivans.

Another race which eliminated countless billions, "The Ancients," as they are called by scientists, were eliminated 8000 years earlier by the Shivans. Even though the Shivans saved them countless times, as soon as they "sinned," they were all wiped out. Ultimately, their information on the Shivans weakness was discovered by us. Without them, Earth would have been destroyed.

The moral is this: Conquering other people. races, or species goes against morals, destroys societies, and cripples achievements. The Shivans had every right to try to kill us, because we ruined billions of lives. Humans ARE evil, and we will never be a race of "Great Preservers" like the Shivans.

I remember waiting for new sonic games to come out.


The first sonic came out in 1990 I believe. Shortly after Christmas.

Then you also have the forgotten classics, such as Descent. I literally grew up on that game; it took me FIVE YEARS to beat the Level 7 boss robot. I had to use cheat codes before that to get past him. Before I used those cheat codes, I would always have awesome dreams about "level 8 and beyond." Those dreams are cemented in my head for a reason: they are hands down, the best dreams I have ever had.

Sadly, my last Descent dream was four years ago. Once in a blue moon, I will have one, but they still SUCK compared to my "retro dreams."

If I could extract those from my head and put them on DVD I would make millions.
