I was thinking that you would still need a third party application if you wanted to create zip files. I have never had a need to create zip files and I do not know if Windows can do this natively.You only really need an app if you need extra capabilities. I still support some legacy software that has some scripts that control communications. Lots of small files that would take forever sending one at a time. I regularly use 7Zip because it's easy to script and relatively feature rich.
