Considering your system, I’d split it between RAM and a hard drive.

If you had a little bit more left, you could get 3 of the 4. I'd suggest you hold off on the video card, and pickup main system memory, hard drive space, and a dvd-burner.

Main Memory = 512 Meg DDR/PC3200 is $42.82 shipped

DVD Burner = NEC 3540a $39.75 shipped Best make and model of burners available too!

160Gb Hard Drive = WD 160GB $39 After Rebate ($60)

120Gb Hard Drive = Seagate 120GB for $35 After Rebate ($60) or $40 After Rebate ($60)

Did you purchase locally or online?

Locally - I'm good friends with the guy at the computer shop ... I used to go there when he had a little internet caf running and he's given me deals on stuff before... I know you can get it a lot less expensive over the net, but I like dealing with Richard :p

Ah. I was just curious why someone would buy locally. I can understand supporting a local mom&pops type shop. I wish there was more decent ones around here. I am baffled when people buy from a big-retail chain when it's 20-50% cheaper online or even same price from a smaller but personable store.

Boycott, if I were you, I'd invest in a new CPU and motherboard also.

Pairing up a 1.2GHz Athlon with a newer 256MB video card is like shooting yourself in the foot, and you really won't gain any performance that way.

Besides, all new video cards come with TV-Out.

I'd personally buy a quality Asus, Chaintech, MSI, or Gigabyte board, and slap in a Sempron 64 if you're that strapped for cash.

A decent Sempron 64 processor and motherboard should cost ~$150.

strapped for cash = not having a job anymore ;)

I have about 13 bucks left after buying the HDD, but it'll come in handy for holding games, CDs and pictures ;) Hopefully.

What games? Like the two billion pirated ISO's of FreeSpace 2, because finding a real, pressed copy is as hard as finding a nun at a porn convention.

Not like your machine could run anything else...

I'd take some of the other shit you're investing in and upgrade the CPU/video card.
