WTF ... IS WTF!?
We are a collective of people who believe in freedom of speech, the rights of individuals, and free pancakes! We share our lives, struggles, frustrations, successes, joys, and prescribe to our own special brand of humor and insanity. If you are looking for a great place to hang out, make new friends, find new nemeses, and just be yourself, WTF.com is your new home.

I seem to have a love/hate relationship with my ADHD.

I love:

Making People Laugh
Immense Creativity
Having a Legit Excuse For Everything

I hate:

Not having a working medication for me (I just tried every one on the market as of today! Word)
Loss of Focus
Shit Grades
Inability to sleep
Implusitivity

I asked my doctor for some Focalin, which is this new ghetto mix of Methylphenedate (Ritalin), and Dextroamphetamine (Dexderine).

Nothing like Ritalin depression :D. I see my brain's hatred for it has never weaned since Kindergarten.

Maybe if I caught up on sleep I'd be okay...Cylert is the only medication that doesn't fuck me up.

Oh, and as to "Don't take anything?"

You wish.

I space out when playing Pong. It's that bad. Also, I'll do anything that pops into my head before I even think about it, or if I think about it I'll say it!

My ADHD is so bad, that if you picture a kid with a spaced out look, spontaneous sick jokes/inappropriate noises, a fondness for pressing buttons, flipping switches, and moving levers without thinking, that's me.

Oh, and I space out when talking about Computers or gaming even. This sucks.

Oh yeah, I jump around and run spontaneously for no reason.

Will we ever find a cure?

I'm not flaming anyone here, I'm just kidding around. I thought one word posts were restricted to OffTopic and 4Chan...

I think what he meant by Never. Was that he didn't know the extent of how much we actually know about the human body and how close we are to curing a few physically-renderinig diseases like Parkinsons and all those other diseases where the myelin sheath to neurons gets messed up, mixing up signals from other neurons etc.

I don't really know a lot about ADHD but from what I do know about diiseases and stuff, it sounds an aweful lot like epilepsy on PCP... Come to think about it, I should get checked out for ADHD... I always space out and sometimes blurt crap out (like telling people to shut the hell up during class when they're making shit comments or saying really stupid things)

That would suck, but I could sell the ritalin for a little bit of money at school :O lol

I'm pretty sure that's not a disease. More likely it's the fact that you detest morons. Don't take drugs to fix that.

I always thought ADHD was made up so the pharmaceutical companies could tap into a new market!

Thats true too... my health teacher actually said that i may have minor epilepsy... just minor, i blank out for about a minute then come back ... its like just concentrating on something for a minute but really not thinking anything at all...

Descent -> ADHD couldn't just be psychological is it? Could you fill me in a bit more on the disease itself?

ADHD is a disorder where the frontal lobes, thalamus, hypothlamus, and other parts of the brain are slightly undersized. Essentially, your brain's "steering wheel" is broken.

What amphetamines do is "overclock" these parts of the brain to almost normal levels, allowing you to function.

Descent, listen.

You need to get OFF the MEDS.

I am not joking.

They are very not good.

You need to learn control through meditation, therapy, activity.

I like the terms you used ... Overclock..

so, getting over it seems to me like getting over an addiction... you have to fight it a hella lot...

I bite my nails, and i go through life saying I'm not going to but my find myself doing it day after day... Have you made it a priority to attempt to stop yourself before you say stuff or do stuff...
