...something dramatically about the site's content, rules/policies, mood, design/layout etc. what would you want and why?

We're working on a few updates, and want to see what our members may come up with that might be worth integrating. Here's your chance!

Just for fun.

Go.

I would want age specific forums - 18+ , 21+ , 30+ , and a 40+. I'd also want membership length specific forums, and perhaps another forum for people with more than 2500 userscore. (what happened to rep?)

Why? Because TITS OR GTFO!!! Thats why! You cut off half the fun of harassing cwomen on the internet if we just get a cleavage shot instead of full blown tah tahs.

I personally find the PG-13 limitating. I understand, agree and like that it is needed to keep the forum clean from porn and graphic things that I don't want to pop out from the blue, but the bounds where our freedom of expression is kept are a little too narrow.
Just sayin'

Well, is there anything you can do about feeling too old here?:(

Didn't think so.;)

Maybe it's me and general forums are for a twenty/thirty-something crowd anyway, I never really thought about it much before now. Maybe forums altogether mostly appeal to that age group, but, anyway, I don't see what you could do to improve anymore, I think you can overthink it, ya' did good.

I think the shoutout box should be turn to the chatbox. There is more activity there right now and IRC isn't getting much activity. I know the mods have been really lax about the shoutbox lately but I think it would be good to just make the full cross over.

You guys still purge it, right?

I don't see the point in gender specific forums either. The majority of the posts in these sections happened 5 to later years ago. They don't get much activity and get overlooked. It's really a cesspool for the site. If for some reason it is just something you feel is necessary, I think adding other forums for the appropriate genders would be PC and beneficial for our members. TG isn't male or female. They have TG specific issues. While we all or most of us want to be supportive, we do not completely understand and some people can be very insensitive from both sexes regarding these issues. I didn't realize there are so many different genders...

Male.
Female.
Cisgender - Your birth body matches your gender.
Bigender: Basically switching between male and female.
Androgyny: It refers to quite a few things, but here it refers to being gender neutral.
Neutrois - Not being in any gender class.
Transsexual - Not a gender, but someone who feels they are the opposite sex.
Intersex - A biological condition, a sex, where your genitalia is ambiguous.
Transgender - An umbrella term for anything that isn't cisgender male or female.

@Lioness On the issue of chat, we're actually about to begin weekly (or possibly twice weekly) scheduled chats. This will allow for people to know when people will be there live and not idling like IRC is known for. I know a lot of seasoned internet veterans know all about IRC but many others don't. I would agree that something could eventually happen with the shoutbox in that regard, maybe removing it from the forum index and having it full-screen size on it's own page (with popup available for those who want to surf around while chatting). There are a few ideas here I'm willing to explore.

If those go open to the other gender, I'm so going to need to delete some things. There is some extremely person stuff in ours.

I was thinking they could be archived like the cockfarm. On the site, however, inaccessible.

I remember when we had groups. They could be public or private, much like the "pages" are on facebook. (Since everything is geared that way nowadays.) I think we should have the ability to have "pages" but the creators could only be Admins, Mods and Premium members who would invite or approve members as they see fit. Yes, another perk for going premie!!

I don't know. There may be a shit ton of coding for that and I know from what little coding I attempted to do back, waaaaaaaaay back, in the day that shit is a pain in the ass. What say you, @Jason and @BRiT ?

Those gender-specific threads will NOT go OPEN to "all gender". If they end up merged into another forum, they will be marked as archived and closed for future posting.

I'm not sure yet what to do with them, so it will require considerable thought.

@Lioness We had "Social Groups" for a couple of years. No one ever used them back in the vBulletin days. There is a similar add-on available now that I wouldn't have to code, that can do that sort of thing. I'll do some more reading about it and maybe post a link here so everyone can evaluate the feature-set.

I think by "open" the femmes really mean "readable", as in readable by everyone.

Ah. Yeah I just tested that, and it's actually unreadable by wrong sex. I know originally back in the day they were viewable by anyone, but only POSTS could be done by the permitted sex. Funny thing was, when those were the permissions it was busier. ;)

I think the bitching of the men is what prompted that to change. :D

I saw it done once that way on a forum and I loved it.

We're going to be running once or twice weekly chats, and still keep the chat room open for those who wish to talk whenever... I don't really want to use the shoutbox as a full chatroom if I can help it. The moderators aren't really "lax" in the chatroom, there really hasn't been anything majorly wrong there from what I can see and it purges after every 75 messages or so. The normally frowned-upon conversations (instead of quick shouts/quotes/blurbs) that have occurred there aren't a big deal if they're kept short. Occasionally we mention it, but its at the low end of the priority list if it isn't anything overly annoying. It's operated the same basically for the past 8 or so years we've used it.

I'd rather ditch the shoutbox and regain the resources it uses, it's good to have one or the other but not always both... ;)

We'll start with the weekly official chats (once a few visual site adjustments go live), and see how that progresses before we entertain future tweaks.

Haha, I forgot to quote Lioness there.

*I think Lioness meant mods have been lax about the shoutbox.

Ok, I see, and I remember seeing that now (twice wkly) but I just wonder, anyway, how common those are, chatboxes on the forums landing page, you'd think that was popular. I would've guessed they're at least somewhat a resource hog though or some kind of annoyance where a big sacrifice comes in to play.

If you ditch the shoutbox, will the site maybe ever run better on my Kindle?lol Enh, I'll have my laptop before too long so it won't matter but I do wish it ran half as well on my Kindle as it does on my phone, so weird.

Well, we only display the shoutbox on the landing page (home) and forum index. These are tweaked to use caching, and write the shouts to a file on the server that is easily and quickly read. There have been performance enhancements since it was first running here, but just the act of running plugins and extra code can theoretically slow things down. I wouldn't worry much about it unless we multiplied our traffic by x50 (we have a dedicated server that should handle it). I just like to run things as clean as possible, makes upgrade easier.

As for the Kindle, you mean Kindle Fire? You'd need to be much more verbose about what you are experiencing on that device? Is it not displaying the site as it should? Or is some specific functionality not working right or missing for you? I do know that all mobile experiences will improve once we release our responsive design which is under construction. We're re-working the site visually a bit, and you won't need to use Tapatalk or anything else to have the site fit a small device.

Twenty-thirty something crowd?

:(

Just because I'm young doesn't mean I'm 'ignant'!.

Only things I can really think of are maybe just a new header, footer image, some icon upgrades, etc. Just cosmetic stuff. Functionally the site works great.

What do the forums run on? PHP/Java and a MySQL database?

Appreciate the comments. We're re-working the header completely (only keeping the mascot), adjusting the footer, and we reduced the header/nav area from 5 horizontal elements to 3 by combining some stuff and removing some white space.

Should be out soon...

As for the code, yeah it's PHP, mysql, with a bit of javascript/jquery, AJAX, and duct tape. ;)
