Installing aftermarket tach?

Please, no kiddy's respond to this. This is a question for anyone who has/knows about installing an aftermarket tach.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to figure out for my vehicle how many RPMs an aftermarket tach should go up to for it. I see 5000 RPM tachs, 8000 RPM and such and I'm not sure what to get for my 2001 hyundai accent. Also if anyone has specific directions for installing it please post them or a link to them here. Thanks.

fubar - maybe it'll help him learn when to shift.

whatever.

you need an 8k tach for one of those high-revving 4cyl motors. generally speaking, they have redlines between 5500 and 7000 rpm. of course, there are exceptions like the s2000's 9000rpm redline (but that's insane).

here's the question: inductive tach, inline tach, cable-driven tach? tell us how it works and it's easier to know how to install, wouldn't you think?

i agree, though; if you're gonna spend money on a gauge for a hyundai, start with oil pressure. it's more of a life saver when you can see the car loses oil pressure under certain conditions and diagnose -> fix the problem before it becomes crucial and you just get the "oil light" while driving one day.

btw, "oil light" when the car is running means SHUT THE CAR OFF NOW NOW NOW and worry about how to stop moving and where to coast second. the thing that sucks about this is how many cars have ignition steering wheel-locks. when shutting off a moving vehicle, never move past the first detent on the switch. that way you'll still be able to turn the wheel, but the motor has no power.

Yeah, the reason I wanted it IS so I could learn how to shift better. I never said I wanted to race it asshole. Oh and I wasn't really sure on what type of tach to get dan, so what do you think is easiest to install?

1. I'm not one of those fags who "pimps out there ride" in kewl d00d racer bullshit nor do I feel like making my car sound like a lawn mower. I'm sorry that you feel the need in buying a sedan only to spend 13000 dollars in parts for it to make it up to standards of most STOCK sport cars.
2. This is my first car and I only payed 1400 for it and it is in very good condition.

Thanks... I have a question though, since this car was designed without a tach, is there even going to be a cable connecting to the fuse box for the tach or would I have to splice into some other cable?
i wire it in with the accesory to turn it if it has a light behind the face, other wise u heed to run a wire trough the firewall to the coil pacs and there should be instructions in the box ;) for the rest of the install.
btw shift @ 2500rpm inless otherwise trying to go faster or slower

uh, if you want to save gas, turn off the car and walk or ride a bike.

it's not as much the rpm at which you shift but how much fuel you put into the car during your drive.

if i shifted my red car at 2500rpm consistently, the mileage would probably be worse than how i normally shift around 4000rpm.
