The 6800Gs is faster, albeit more expensive. The 1600 looks like it's probably the best card available for the price.

EDIT: oh yeah, do you HAVE to have a PCIe slot to run it?
Yes.

I just read a comparison of the nvidia 6800GT and the X1600XT in Maximum PC magazine. The 6800GT (Aopen Aeolus 6800GT ) won out basically by virtue of the fact that it has 16 pixel pipelines vs. 12 for the ATI X1600XT. And yeah, it's a PCI express card. It outperformed the ATI card in all the 3D game and video tests and that's what you're looking for isn't it? GPU and memory clock speeds weren't as much of a factor as the amount of pixel pipelines.

The 6800GT is not the comparable card to the 1600XT, the 6800GS is. The 6800GT is much faster, but also sells for about $100 more than the 1600 does ($275-$300), and $75-100 more than the GT does. The GS model can be found for under $200.

*looks into room* *throws out his 6600 GT* I am looking to upgrade...I saw a few that I was interesting....the X1600 looks like a great bash for buck card. I just don't have PCI-E :thumbsdn: Any decent recommendations for AGP?

Damn, long time no post hozer. Assuming your syste is a 4x/8x AGP setup you can still find some X800 cards from ATI or 6800 cards from Nvidia. You can also find X700Pro cards from ATI but they're pretty much even with the 6600 GT. All in all you're not going to get a huge upgrade if you stay with AGP.

Oddly enough I just read this review of a Saphire X800GTO card today. It looks as if you can get quite a bit of bang out of it.

EDIT: Yeah, my AGP is 8x...All in all I think the card is great...I guess everything is due for an upgrade...but yeah, thanks I'll check them out
