First and foremost I must say is I was pretty surprised not to find this on the search engine, so here I am posting this:

World government is the concept of a political body that would make, interpret and enforce international law. Inherent to the concept of a world government is the idea that nations would be required to pool or surrender (depending on point of view) sovereignty over some areas. In effect, a world government would add another level of administration above the existing national governments or provide coordination over areas national governments are not capable of adequately addressing as independent polities.

To date, no nation has officially put forward plans for a world government, until now - well, nothing official of course :p

This is an interesting video from Youtube.com. It initially discusses the American union but eventually discusses the far more darker possibility of our future - a global dictatorship...

As you will probably agree, this vid is a bit radical, but it really brings to light just how easily we're lead on. Talk about a serious case of the hundredth monkey syndrome.

Anyways, take a ganders at http://www.brasschecktv.com too if you really want to get thinking.

Everyone loves a conspiracy, but this one just might be onto something.

Globalized liberalism is paving the way : the State is becoming smaller, while the private sector is becoming more and more free to do what the fuck it wants to. Wealth is becoming more and more polarized. A one world government controlled by the private sector would be the ultimate triumph of the economic dogma that is doomed to destroy most life on this planet.

Its already being planned, but the people that are planning it are trying to keep it secret by not spending our tax money on it therefore they are not subject to the freedom of information act.

Some are elected officials.

Fringe Theory does seem appropriate, but this is also a controversial issue that could be constituted as viable for the Issue thread, IMO.

It presents a current controversy which is sovereignty/Nationalism vs. NWO/globalization with an obvious slant against globalization/NWO. Many people rationally believe that globalization is just another step to dissolving sovereignty.

They are using only one example for each point they prove in the video. Then they are connecting those feeble points together to come up with a radical suggestion. A world government conspiracy is fucking crazy. The logic comes from random quotes and one news broadcast (Don't forget the random-ass phone conversation that was taken out of context). Only an idiot would whole-heartedly believe the video. As for economic unity I do see that as a possibility to ease trading. But for one world government, fuck no.

Since this is still best described as a conspiracy theory (at least imo - but feel free to provide some credible evidence), I hardly see how this would be valid Issues material.

I don't think one world government will happen anytime soon, but I do believe that a North American Union will be formed, similar to the EU. But if that happens, who knows what will happen with the economy, especially if a new currency is created.

Unless the one world government is a Woodocracy: one world, united, under Woodreaux with the Honorable Wang: Mjolnir Shai Hulud for all the fly honey's... I'm not interested.

actually commiunism tried this. Sort of.. With their Komintern, that would rule every nation and would lead to the disappearance of states.

Moved to Fringe Theory for all your tin-hatted needs.

It's not a crackpot theory. The north american union is being debated among scholars in various universities in North America. Also, leaders of financial institutions, media empires, major corporations and influent politicians meet every year in what is called the Bilderberg conference (that is factual), to discuss things such as the creation of the European Union (as the BBC reported recently - use google).

Global warming, killer asteroid, deadly plague, you name it, countries will create all kinds of cooperative international ventures to deal with the problem, but they won't yield their own sovereignty beyond what little they must give away in order to survive the crisis more or less intact.

Whether or not you oppose a world government is based entirely on how you envisage such a future state to exist, but if you aren't a business magnate or a political figure likely to have a role in such a government, it is hard to really see the benefits of it in our present situation.

Conservatives would be wary of the size and cost of such a government. Libertarians would fear for the rights of individuals in such a state. Progressives would despair the lack of responsiveness such a government would impose on local individuals and groups. Socialists would recoil at the massive empowerment they would offer to businesses at the cost of labour and consumer interests.

Hopefully, enough opposition to mean it would never happen.

Why? That's all I have to ask. I seriously could have thrown together that crackpot bullshit theory in a matter of minutes.

I've heard about the chips before. They can't track everything you do. They can, however, be used to locate someone- lost children, criminals, etc.

And, since so many of you beleive that the world is dominated by religious fundamentalist nutjobs-

"I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands." -Revelation 20:4

As long as that verse exists, this won't get too far.

Not to put too strong a point on it, but what planet are you looking at exactly?
America's pretty ridiculiously free marke. But even the conservatives have expanded state power.
Heck, the number 1 country on earth (sweden) is divided up among several nationally owned and operated corporations (yes, government corporations)

By that logic we shouldn't have a census taken, because God punished David for it by a plague that killed tens of thousands of Isrealites. Yet we do!

No, it's just a verse that scares a lot of the Christians.
