I would like to start a serious thread about the relation between America and Europe. There are a lot of things that seem to be lost in the media war.

Life is different than what you think!
For instance...
Nearly no-one wears wooden shoes in The Netherlands.
French Fries come from Belgium.
Liberals in Europe are conservative in European point of view.
Most of European parties are right wing, just like in the USA.
Even if they call themselves Social-Democrats or Socialists.

So ask your question, or make your remark.

How is the culture in Germany? Are video games and heavy metal really the mainstream there?

If so, I'm moving there. I already know that that country is totally me.

Perhaps we'd better let Bush out of discussion.

There are more important things.

The representative for instance.
A member of the American parliament is called ...??
Member of Parliament?
Representative?
Congress member?

http://www.house.gov/

I have got the idea that American representatives are more free in their choice to support a law or not. It's their own decision.
In Europe it is common for representavives to follow the party line.
In Great Brittain they have even Party Whips.
Those are persons that check how their party members vote.
I think that is bad for democracy.
It would be better that voting in parliament would be secret.

How does it work in the USA?
At least 10 points for the USA!

USA-Europe 10-0

Get the idea?

0 = Not good
5 = Hmm
10 = Very good

Well...
This thread is dead in the water for a few days now...
That's not the way I intended it..

So, I say a few nice words.. ;)

I was a bit rude on this forum..
Just to test how the American response would be.

Really!

Conclusion:

Americans are much more sensitive to freedom of speech than Europeans!

No matter how I tried to behave as an asshole,
I never got kicked out of this forum!

BRAVO!

Ramstein.

But, it is hard to buy a harley in europe, you have to drive a bmw bike. LOL

I think that Europe is a great continent, with many redeeming qualities, redoctober not being one of them. However, if you look at the amount of sheer force in technology and industrial advances that America funds both here and abroad, there is no denying that this country rocks. Also, please take Sweden into account, without which we would not have the current advances in medical genome technology, specifically refering to cancer advancements, but these advancements are typically funded by american contributors. The reason for this is that the FDA requirements for testing and patents of medical technology is far too strict and expensive. You can thank the FDA and HMO for the rising cost of med care in America.

As far as french fries being from belgium, who cares? I dont even eat french fries.
:rolleyes:
