Pseudo-political Psychobabble

Well, yet another way to piss me off. You may have noticed that tax season has come and gone. Some people are still scrambling to complete their taxes after filing an extension because they were too stupid or lazy to go through their receipts ahead of time and file the paperwork by 15 April. I hate paying taxes, but I do it as early as I can, usually in the first week of February. I always get money back. Being a homeowner and the father of three helps. But, I digress.

I made the mistake of discussing taxes recently with my sister, a normally very intelligent 19-year-old who will probably graduate college before I. In our conversation, she hit upon the idea that "poor" people should pay no taxes and that "rich" people (our parents, me, anyone who makes a decent living according to the Democrats) should pay more. Further, these taxes should then be divided amongst the poor in Robin Hood fashion to help put everyone on the same terms economically.

Huh? I blinked and tried to imagine where she had gotten these ideas. I told her that I thought she had been listening to too many liberal professors at college. She didn't agree and a verbal brawl ensued.

I tried to explain that those of us who work for a living and pay taxes on our income worked hard for that money in an attempt to provide for the standard of living she and people like her now enjoy. I further explained that obtaining said gainful employment is beyond no one and that our society will never be one where everyone is equal in economic status. Some people have no ambition, some people are lazy, some people love to work, etc. Some people are so stupid that I wonder how they manage to breathe (Maddonx).

She remained unconvinced. She went on and on about how beautiful our world would be if wealth was divided equally; the clouds would part, sun would shine in, angels would sing, and we'd all have a Coke and smile.

Whatever. I don't normally like to hurt her feelings, but I began to think that I had no other choice. I explained that it was called Communism, that it had been tried, and that it had failed in every attempt. Then, an epiphany.

My sister has always, always been a 4.0 student. She was born 30 and just grew bigger. She works hard for her grades and will undoubtedly go far in professional life. I asked about her friend, Katie. Katie has never been the greatest student, but she always passes her classes; she is the stereotypical C student. Katie is no good at math and had real trouble with college algebra, managing to pull out a C. My sister, of course, had made an A.

So, I suggested that she take her A and make it a B, then she could give the extra grade point to Katie, making her C a B. I have always thought that 3.0 is a great GPA. In this scenario, they both win.

My sister flipped. She started yelling defensively about how hard she worked for her grades, telling me about the late nights studying and the missed parties.

"That's just not fair! I worked really hard for those grades and giving up some so that someone else has a better GPA is just wrong!" she cried.

"Kind of like your new tax system," I said. She froze and her mouth dropped open. She didn't say another word. Score.

In retrospect, I put this in the wrong part of the forum. Unless you want to debate it.

Bullshit. This country is turning fucking socialist on us. These fucking dumbass politicians (and I'm talking about ever damn one of those mother fuckers) are fucking raping this nation raw. I WISH we had capitalism, free markets, open borders, and a lack of social conservatism, but that sure as hell isn't the case. The criminals have taken over Washington DC, and our freedoms are going to fucking hell.

I'm fucking sick of these fucking politicians who regulate my body and my money.

Hmm, I am just happy I live in Australia... none of your pig headed american opinions... I say "live and let live", which of course is a quote i didn't create... but I believe in it all the same. Can't you people let others have thier own opinions? And if you hadn't noticed but, China, is still a communist country, and seems to be running itself satifactorily. Hey even Iraq was running smotly until you guys stuck your opinion in. How dare you guys get the SAS in all that (special australian services; Aussie commandos). They have saved your ass on more than one occasion *cough* Vietnam*cough*, but i suppose none of you remember that.

Let's see here, first we bailed out the French, by sending in wave after wave of us troops - more than 2.59 million people served in Vietnam from 1962 - 1972. Australia contributed about 40,000 people throughout the conflict. Wait, they were probably all badasses, right? Thanks coming to the rescue. Fact is - if Australia were to have a natural disaster, or large terrorist attack, the first country to offer help (and coincidentally, the first place the Aussie gov't would look) would be the US. Case in point - North Korea.

Just be glad that your continent is wasteland. Otherwise New Zealand would have invaded you long ago. Y'all may play some rugby but your army is a farce. I've trained with Aussies, and the best thing I can say is that their uniforms looked clean. These guys made the Canadian Army (read girl scouts) look professional.

Oh god... Thank you for proving my point, research your shit before you post. And, for your information, New Zealand would be the first to send help if we were invaded, which although highly doubtful (By the way, this is my opinion. Do you think America will be invaded? NO of course not, so let me think my country won't either.) could happen, although of course you wouldn't have bothered to learn about the NZRAF but they are the best thing going for New Zealand since LOTR is over. Oh and great job kepping trhe peace over there in Iraq. NOtice the Aussie casualties compared to yours? The aussies are out there atm defending a cement factory vital to rebuilding Iraq post war. But not a single Aussie has died, however in the last week, i am not sure about the final figure but i know it is more than 10 US marines got killed. So suck on that man, your soldiers suck, you win by sheer force of numbers, and buying technology from Japan. And have you noticed how pissed off the UN is that no WMDs were found? Now that just makes it obvious you were in it for the oil doesn't it? Man i would love to join the UN led coalition and fuck up you arrogant sons of bitches. :mfinger: :mfinger: :mfinger: Edited by me:spelling:

Are you still spewing forth nonsense, pussy? Yea, you're guarding that oh so important cement factory, yea, there's a critical military objective for the enemy. You keep those guards posted 'round the clock.Hate to have the terrorist steal a couple tons of cement. Hell, they might just make a suicide sidewalk or something. Now, run along, have a kangaroo sandwich and STFU.

Those numbers would undoubtedly increase if someone were actually shooting at the Australian soldiers guarding that oh-so-important cement plant. Of all the things you could have cited as examples of military superiority, you chose to cite casualty numbers for troops guarding a cement plant. That was just bonzer, mate. Only a superior fighting force would be assigned to guard that cement plant.

Let's put it in context: the US Marines are conducting operations in hot zones, where there is real combat going on. People are actually trying to kill American soldiers. There are bound to be casualties. Dumbass.

As to oil, you're welcome, since your country's oil supply appears to be dwindling and it looks like you'll be importing more, (http://www.abc.net.au/rural/news/stories/s1077078.htm).

Oh, and fuck the UN. That's a worthless body of imbeciles whose power extends only to the sidewalk in front of the UN building. Why doesn't the UN do something besides debate? Why not form a coalition to root out terrorists? They don't appear to be concerned about that, do they?

U.N. = Usually Nothing, as in what they accomplish. What really pisses me off is we pay 1/3 of the operating/maintenance cost of that piece of shit org. and there's a 178 nations that belong to the UN. I just watched a special on the Food for Oil program sponsered by the UN with Saddam Hussein, and the UN gleaned 2 billion dollars from the deal. WTF? And we pay fees? And where exactly is that money going? And what for? Time for the American people to stand up and kick it out, let France host the bastards.

Obviously you don't see the need for other countries to have a say in the world, US makes the rules now eh? Man that's so arrogant.
And hey, asshole, about that cement factory, it was being guarded by a whole cell. So don't tell me about hot zones, they used a sonic boom to scare the terrorists out. Thus no casualties, they fought smart, not your stupid; lets just bomb it and hope they blame the terrorists.
The US is supposed to have a signiture shock and awe campaign style, where did that go? You can't fight a guerilla war, not in a country that isn't your own, the cells have too much support from the civilians.
And, the Un doesn't seem concerned about terrorists because it is in America, an impregnable fortress *cough* 9/11 *cough*. Maybe the UN cares more about saving the starving people in Tanzania and other small countries? Damn, I wish China was a bit more proactive... where would you be then? The only thing that has kept your country alive is nuclear missiles, and can you imagine the international opinion drop? Oh but of course other opinions don't matter to America; Land of the free.

OK, let's see.

Solanaceae said:

When we give the UN its meeting place, we pay most of the operating costs, and we reap almost none of the benefits of membership, yes, we get to make some of the rules. Australia and Finland can begin making the rules when they shoulder the burden. I think it is equally arrogant for the misguided and uninformed citizenry of other nations to criticize the United States of America simply because we are the USA. I also think it is arrogant that other nations criticize us out of one side of their mouths and then demand aid from us out of the other side of their mouths.

Hey asshole. A whole cell of terrorists scared out by a sonic boom when they are not afraid to board an airplace and crash it into large buildings? I doubt it. If the bombs and guns don't scare them, I doubt that a loud noise will do so.
Solanaceae said:

Is that so? I was never briefed on this when I was in the Army. You have hit a good point here: our opponents have support from civilians. Thus our continued campaign to identify and remove these civilians. If civilians get in the way, if civilians are going to support our enemies, then said civilians may wind up casualties. That's called war, dipshit. You might know more about it if you had ever been there.
Solanaceae said:

Impregnable fortress? Hardly. Our borders are open to any piece of shit from another country who can manage to find passage here. We have illegal aliens in this country drawing on our social welfare system, money which, more often than not, finds its way back to their family in the motherland.

As to the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center having occured on September 11, 2001, it was a terrorist attack. It happens all over the world every day. The scope of the attack and the number of civilian deaths involved, however, were far higher than most other terrorist events.
Solanaceae said:

You think so? Then why have they not raised the standard of living in any of these poor nations? I'm waiting to see it, but I won't. The UN likes to debate, they visit other nations and the news media makes a big deal about it, and they sometimes guard missionaries. Moreover, they're your neighbors. Why isn't Australia helping Tazania into the 21st century? I don't see Tanzania moving into the microchip business soon.
Solanaceae said:
Damn, I wish China was a bit more proactive... where would you be then?
You think so? Funny thing about China. They are moving quickly in the direction of Capitalism. The old regime is beginning to die off or simply adapt. As to military might...Well, China has an awful lot of people to carry shovels and dig holes.
Solanaceae said:

No, we have kept ourselves aline through political and economic means. Nuclear missiles help, but they can't fight a war for you. Nukes are like planes and artillery. Sure, you can bomb an area back into the Stone Age, but then what? Someone actually has to walk in and hold it. That's called infantry. We have a lot, but not enough to threaten the whole world with, nor to hold onto very much bombed-out territory.
Solanaceae said:
Oh but of course other opinions don't matter to America; Land of the free.
"Land of the Free and home of the Brave," is the saying. We fully believe that. It's part of why we are interested in the world as a whole. It's part of the reason we will become involved when your nation calls for help. Having grown up in the United States and having visited a great many countries around the world for extended periods of time, I can say that I would rather be here than anywhere else. Perhaps it's why there is so much emmigration from other nations to the United States. Opinions do matter, but not enough to really worry us. We prefer peace, but prepare for war. Piss off.
