Today I got a call from my new boss. She asked me if I had graduated from high school yet. I said no, I'm still a senior. She goes, crud. Then asks if I'm graduating early. I said no. (Cuz in my school if you graduate early u don't get to go through the ceremony in the spring.) She goes crud. She asked me if she had asked if I was graduated when she hired me and I said no because she never had. Then she proceeds to tell me that she can't move me up to the position she hired me for because i'm not graduated and she doesn't know what she'll do. She'll talk to me when I come in for work tomorrow.

What does she mean she doesn't know what she's going to do? First thing that pops into my mind when she said that is that she's going to terminate me. Cuz I was hired as an aide with the idea that once I got my college credits that I'd be moved up to a teacher's aide (get paid more and everything.) which is what she really needs right now. Well, if i can't be moved up, does she still need me? I've only been working there 3 weeks, so it's still within the 90 day trial period. I'm so worried. I just love working there. The kids are so cute. One little girl in the infant room actually fell asleep in my arms yesterday. (She was a bit older. So not like a tiny baby.) It was just too cute. I don't want to loose my job cuz she didn't remember to ask if I had graduated from high school or not.

It took me a month to find this job and it's the best job ever. I don't wanna loose it cuz of some technicality. I'll see what my dad says. He knows a lot about hiering and fiering ppl. (He used to have to do it all the time at his old job.)

Bullshit...it's not your fault your boss couldn't get her shit together BEFORE she hired you...that's what an interview is for. I'd start looking into the law in your state regarding age restrictions and your job, too. Good luck! ;)

There really wasn't a formal interview. I came in to drop off my app and she hired me pretty much on the spot and i worked that whole day. I'll see what can be done. This is what I'm thinking may happen. I'm not sure though cuz she never said it. But the way she said what she did say just makes me worry for the worst. :(

she may be setting you up for the boot or at least taking a pay decrease. if thats at all possible?????? i don't know if this place has a lower position, or if they need you doing that lower level job.

what might happen is, you'll be doing the job of an aid, but getting paid much less. if you love your job this may be alright, if not, then its fucked up basically they're treating you this way.

don't work for a company who starts out on a bad foot with pay.

Well, i get $6 an hour and in our state i don't believe that they can just cut ur pay like that. I don't think she'd do that anyway. Just giving me the boot would be a more likely thing than a pay decrease.

This whole thing just sucks SHIT!

Hmm...

Sounds to me that maybe she was trying to move you up to working full-time, but since you're still in school she can't do that.

Wow, your state really does suck. The minimum wage in Rhode Island is $6.75 an hour.
$6 is better than our minimun wage here in Virginia. Shit here our minimum wage starts at $5.15...Now that just sux ass!

Our minimum wage is $5.75. But the money doesn't matter.

I went in today and i talked to my boss and she was all flustered and she was like, do you care how many hours you get? and I said no, I just want to get a pay check. She made a huge sigh and was like, omg, GREAT! She's like, I felt so horrible last night. And if u can work in the infant/toddler room that would be great. We may have to cut your hours but if that's ok with you we can work something out. She was so relieved that I could stay. So were all my other co-workers. Except one, who got fired today for falling asleep with all the toddlers up. She was so pissed and she stole some stuff. So now she's in bigger trouble. But hey, as long as it's not my neck on the chopping block.

My boss was like, I'm so glad cuz u work so well with the kids and the kids like you so much. So I'm glad I'm still working. It's great.

And I couldn't have worked full time and she knew it. It was a part time teacher's aide positon that she wanted me in, but i couldn't do it cuz i haven't graduated yet.

Good deal. The boss is probably catching some heat for not asking you the question, but obviously sees the value of having you as an associate. Way to go!
