so what is worse the threat of terrorism or the threat from other Americans? What about the threat from yourself? Well about 15,000 people die per year in America from murder and a staggering 30,000 from suicide. So why don't we go to war on murders and suicides? Over the last 20 years that amounts to over 500,000 suicides and 250,000 murders and at most 3,500 deaths due to terrorism. Am i missing something here? :(

Doing a war on murder doesn't make as good a political campaign. See murders are common, so they're boring cause we're so used to them. Plus the numbers are too easy to track, so it's pretty obvious when a war on crime isn't working. Now terrorism on the other hand, you can do all sorts of majik tricks with that shit. You can open up new departments of homeland security that sound all useful, you can make color coded systems that even morons can understand to tell people just how much to be afraid, and best of all, when there are no terrorist attacks for months, it means it all must be working right? Of course if there is an attack, we're all supposed to be too afraid to question authority, and the people who didn't support the war on terror are obviously to blame.

Now don't take this to mean that all the efforts to fight terrorism are useless, but I think they are being very poorly executed and largely overblown. The whole thing is a huge political farce, and the likelyhood of dying in a terrorist attack in the US are actually still just about the same post 9/11 as they were before.

Incidently, I've been conducting my own little war on ninja attacks here in Boston, and ever since I opened up my department of ninja protection, there hasn't been a single victim of ninja attack in this city. I must be doing a really good job. But don't blame me if there ever is an attack, if this city gave me more funding (and all you damn skeptics stopped blubbering about pirate attacks) I could afford to provide better protection.

Well, it reminds me of the history of Gajus Julius Caesar.

In fact, Rome had an army as a power to remain independent.
But the problem is, what to do with an army.
If there is peace, they have nothing to do.
That causes some political instability in a short while.

So you send them blokes to far off lands.
Where they can fight for the better of their commanding officer.
Julius Caesar stayed years in the Western European area,
and a lot of tribes were Romanized.

All for the benifit of his own political carreer.

So, if you ask me, if a country has no enemy,
them politicians allways invent one.
The muslims are the scapegoat now.

There is omly one big problem!
The Romans conquered new lands, but accepted their culture.
That's why they had succes in the long run.

The Americans are not able to do that.
That's why it will never work.

Every muslim knows the leading families in the middle east are corrupt as hell.
And that the Americans support dictators. How do Americans think to gain their sympathy?

Americans even butalize their existing allies. If I write some critical view, there is a  reply most of the time.
Western Europeans are more subtile in their language, but they have to adapt their way of discussion into shouting also when talking to Americans.

Every time you bomb a city in Iraq, more terrorists are born, in the hearts of a proud people. To them you are newbies, with big guns.
They don't care about guns. They know you can't slit all their throats.
But they can slit yours. That's your problem!

It is the same dillemma as in Vietnam.

You can't conquer a land where the population is unfriendly towards you.
To win, you would have to kill them all if they resisted.
Just like the Romans did, only if a tribe resisted!

But America is not able to kill thousands of people, because it gives bad P.R.
So why did America Invade Iraq in the first place?

Well, I am a bit older, and I know that in the 50's and thereafter wasn't all that sunny alltogether either!
The only thing was, it didn't appear in the newspapers.

But I remember living in a small village, where people knew each other well, so there was a lot of social control. People were catholic, protestant or socialist in The Netherlands, and each group had his own club.
There was a strong group mentality. If a kid did wrong on school, he also got whacked by his own father.

Nowadays the father whacks the teacher if he corrects his son for bad behaviour.
I understand it though.. Society has no future for untrained labor.
So every child has to study to get a job.

In the same time, some groups don't get a chance at all, because their parents raise their children in hatred against society.
And so they start swinging a gun when they grow up.
