Hey,

So I'd like some opinions on this..

I'd like to redo the User Title Ladder / Trophies system (unrelated to Medals), and I wanted to gather some suggestions from the peanut gallery...

So we currently just use the default User Ladder, the titles of which are the following:

Flame Bait (0)
Member (5)
Active Member (25)
Well-Known Member (45)

The number value after the title is the minimum value a person must have to activate it.

The User Title Ladder Field we currently base the above titles on is the "Trophies", which is one of 3 options. We can use post count, trophy points, or like count.

How would you like to see this calculated, and what ladder titles and numerical values would you like to see?

I like post count best. "Well liked member" would be for like count, I think.

I think we should go by the wtf rating count, since this is wtf.com.

Can I get a rating for being an asshole?

What about changing the post count for "will known member" and "active member?" I think 45 is more suited to active and something like 100 or so for well known.

We can also add additional titles in the ladder, doesn't just have to be a couple...

Hoping someone can be creative enough to give me a few humorous titles (like hoodrat), and then we can attach post counts to them...

How about a title for those who have posted 1000+ times? Maybe, anchient artifact, senior member, old timer, seasoned veteran... something of that nature?

How about this for # of posts:
  • 0-14 - 'Flame bait'
  • 15-49 - '"Member" (heh)'
  • 50-99 - 'Participator'
  • 100-999 - 'Almost Famous'
  • 1000+ - 'Furniture'
And then maybe combine it with some adjective or other based on accumulated points?

@14 kinda derogatory
@50 Funny
@250 Encouraging
@1000 Complimentary or Derogatory/offensive depending on what the soupbutt in question deserves

How about we start with 10 titles.

My brain is fried on funny ass titles, and this week is going to be hell for me. lol

0 = Fresh Meat?
1-14 = Flame Bait?
......

We'll stop at 1000 posts for now, then add a few for the handful who have gotten crazy numbers (though of course your custom user title replaces this). Many never fill it out (especially non-recent visitors who may never have) so it will help fill out the older posts a little.

Is there no way to work the titles off how many WTF Users They Slept With?

Seriously, any way of figuring out by percentage of posts for some of the larger ranges even if we calculate the ranges up front first? The clean ranges feel so arbitrary and cliche, like what's so great about 25 or 50 or 100 or 250 or 500?

That would be interesting, but no way that I know of to do something similar...

Maybe we just take a moment in time like at Christmas or New Years Day and then figure out what nice percentages might be then? Like now we have 1,122,487 posts, so 1% would be 11,224. That could be a nifty upper range. Could then use some other quadrant percentages from there. While 0.1% would be 1122 which isn't too shabby either. Then 0.01% is 112, which is a much nicer number than 100. ;)

That would make the user-titles more dynamic, might be interesting to see what happens with people who haven't posted in a while, and still see their username changed.

I don't know about the mechanics in wtf's backbone, but I'm sure there's some way to keep track of the total number of posts on wtf, as there is for each individual member. Percentages would then be easily calculated, maybe even on the fly.
  • 'Flame bait' (0% - 0.000999...%)
  • '"Member" (heh)' (0.001% - 0.00999...%)
  • 'Particinator' (0.01% - 0.0999...%)
  • 'Postaholic' (0.1% - 0.4999...%)
  • 'Furniture' (0.5% and up)
Edit:
Just thought of an addition: Different adjectives based on highest rating received OR given.

Don't forget hoodrat, and clitpickle!

I may leave BRiT in charge of this one while I start going through my todo list for the new style which is done this week. :)

We can base trophies on specific conditions such as how many likes they got, post count, likes to messages ratio, gender, whether you are part of a special usergroup (premium, staff), if its their birthday, etc.

Not many options for user titles much, since it can be attached to the trophies system I guess.

The only options for user titles are the following:

Well, that rules the dynamic adjectives out :(
Oh well... How about this then?
  • 'Fresh Meat' (0% - 0.0004999...%)
  • 'Flame bait' (0.0005% - 0.000999...%)
  • 'Hoodrat' (0.001% - 0.004999...%)
  • 'Clitpickle' (0.005% - 0.00999...%)
  • 'Tenderony' (0.01% - 0.04999...%)
  • 'Particinator' (0.05% - 0.0999...%)
  • 'Postaholic' (0.1% - 0.4999...%)
  • 'Furniture' (0.5% and up)
With BRiT's 1,122,487 the hard limits (heh) would be like this:
  • 'Fresh Meat' (0 - 4)
  • 'Flame bait' (5 - 10)
  • 'Hoodrat' (11 - 55)
  • 'Clitpickle' (56 - 111)
  • 'Tenderony' (112 - 560)
  • 'Particinator' (561 - 1,121)
  • 'Postaholic' (1,122 - 5,611)
  • 'Furniture' (5,612 and up)

I think those are some good titles, and we don't need tons of them as most will remove the default long before the upper ones anyways...

I'll leave it to my-brother-from-another-mother to add in any titles and values as appropriate!
