WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House on Tuesday blamed insurgents seeking to derail Iraqi elections for a deadly attack at a U.S. base in northern Iraq that presented a fresh challenge for President Bush.

"They will be defeated and a free and peaceful Iraq will emerge. When it does, it will be a major blow to their ambitions and the ambitions of those who espouse hatred," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.

As a new poll showed a majority of Americans now believe the Iraq war was not worth fighting, Bush was described as mourning the loss of life in the Mosul attack and praying for the families of those who were killed.

The rocket and mortar attack in Mosul that killed 22 people took place as Bush prepared to visit families of wounded soldiers at a housing facility at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

And WHY do we have Insurgents in Iraq?

Because we have Bush in the White House...

Ah, no, Saddam was in charge, and there were no insurgents, Buddy.

We created them.

They are blowing themselves up to get rid of us...wake up...

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The brigadier general who investigated abuse at Abu Ghraib prison is heading the U.S. military's probe into how a suicide bomber infiltrated a U.S. Army base near Mosul and detonated a deadly explosion, authorities said Friday.

"Now we have a pretty good idea that it was a suicide bomber," said Lt. Col. Paul Hastings, a spokesman at the Mosul base. "(Formica) is going to investigate into the how's — how did that happen?"

the explanation has evolved.

Pretty simple actually, some asshat iraqi insurgent dressed up like a Iraqi Solider or an ING and walked his ass right in. I'm sure "military intelligence" will figure that out in about another 2 months or so.

false.

there will never be a free and peaceful iraq. if the sunni's have power, the shiite's will refuse to acknowledge it, and vice versa. religion is mighty crazy sometimes. even when its the SAME religion.

What we should do is let anyone run. Even Saddam. Because if they want Saddam back and Bush wants a president over there. Let Saddam run Bush can even get Diebold machines so he can get a puppet of the U.S in control. Bush can then steal 2 elections!
