Upping the Avatar Size to 100x100

I truly feel the 75x75 is limiting.

I wanted this image to be my avatar:

So, I downsized it to 100x100, the old standard:

vasudanavnewsm0mv.jpg


Then, I discover that the size limit it 75x75. So, I downsize again:

vasudanavnewwtf2gq.jpg


As you can see, it looks like shit at 75x75.

I may use a temp avatar if I can't get it to look good.

But shit! It looks fine, either ways it goes! Just because there is a size limit to avatars, and mine was hard to figure out because of it's blurriness at such a size, did I complain?

Ever consider that Jason is running more than one site off the server? I kow their size is fairly trivial, but it adds up. Take into consideration that avatars aren't that important. Plus, larger avatars mean longer load times for dial up users.

While we can certainly consider upping the dimensions of the avatar, we won't be upping the file size itself beyond what it is now.. Gotta keep in mind every outcome also, because if a user does NOT use a signature AND has a very short 1 line reply, a larger avatar will create an even UGLIER display with so much extra white space in the post column.

Also as far as speed, we can go all out and crazy if it were just us broadband users, but we have to keep the dial-up users from falling asleep. ;) There is a reason for every single setting we use here (and on my other sites) because they are time-tested and bring about the best experience. This includes images in sigs, and avatar size limits.

I wouldn't worry about either filesize or bandwidth on our end though, just the end user's experience! ;) Our server is pretty beefy.

You could crop the left-hand side a bit, so when you do downsize it, you'll have more of the pertinent information (the face) in the pic.

I tried that. It looked half-assed.

These little 8' guys are so entertaining. I'm gonna genetically engineer a few, and have them put on plays for me and shit. I'll make them fuck and shit, and then I'll have a little Vasudan porn site, and I'll rake in $40,000 a month.

They can sleep with me when I'm sick, and sneak into bars and buy drinks.
