AUGH! 800x600?! It's like I'm reading a Special Education textbook! Those fonts are motherfucking huge!
My DOS machine runs 640x480 for one reason: Nostalgia. That and the fact that the video card is a slow piece of shit, a 512K Cirrus Logic that cannot display 256-color video above that, let alone play Descent at above 8fps regardless of detail level. Also, Doom 2 is unplayable unless I turn on "Low Detail."
And the CPU is a speedy one - a Cyrix Cx486DX2-66MHz. I had a Compaq Prolinea with an Intel 486DX2-66MHz and a Tseng Labs ET4000/W32 1MB card and it pwned in Descent. I miss that box but prefer this one.
None, since that's not a standardized resolution. Dell sells 20" (2005FPW) and 24" (2405FPW) wide screen LCDs that run 1680 x 1050 and 1920 x 1080 respectively. Both have 12ms response times.
Look at the image I posted above, I own the 20" wide screen Dell and I love it. Imo, the 24" isn't as practical since it stretches anything but 1080 HD movies and would be really taxing on video cards. If you do any gaming, the 24" monitor will pretty much force you to always have the newest, fastest video card. At least if you want to run games at the native resolution... but if you don't it looks like crap.
