Ok, I'm sick of all the derogatory comments about Canada, and have decided to post a thread for all the people on this site to decide once and for all which of the rich North American countries is better overall.
I'm gonna start off presenting the Canadian side because, well, I'm Canadian:
NUMBER ONE: We don't have gun violence anything like America does, as a little kid I travelled to Baltimore, I was scared to go outside. Admittedly I was about seven, but it has somehow stuck with me that all my memories of the USA contrast badly with Canada.
NUMBER TWO: Health care, this one is named all the time, you may even be annoyed about it, but it is true, and a major problem.
NUMBER THREE: Canada doesn't have the PATRIOT Act besmirching it's civil liberties! This is big, I know the fucking RCMP isn't gonna bust me for taking out "suspicious library materials".
NUMBER FOUR: For some reason, Canada isn't on Osama's shit list. Hmm, I wonder why? Is it because we have no freedoms? Nope, it's because we don't play imperial superpower all over the middle east.
NUMBER FIVE: I'm leaving this up to the rest of you Canadians and Americans who wish they were Canadian.
So post away, fellow WTFers, and please don't respond with simplistic tripe such as: "go kill yourself with a <insert random piece of hockey equipment here>".

I think it’s a ridiculous question, since there is no definitive answer; it’s all relative. That said, what’s the point? This is just going to turn into a “lol my country is better lol” thread.

I've got nothing good to say about America. I don't shit on Canadains,or Canada. Both countries have their up's and down's, such is the way of life. I don't know much about Canada so I can't put anything into comparison. But America has one hell of a negative side to it, which I would post, but it would be like 90 paragraphs long, and one of the ignorant patroits on this site would report me to the FBI for being a terrorist for posting a derogatory speech on the country and government. America, summed up in one word: Hypocrite. Synonymns if I ever did see one.

If I say what I think, I'll get banned, so here goes the alternative...

Canada: Hockey, beer, free health care...

America: Fat people, Bush, gay marriage...

Now this seems contradictory to anything I would ever say, but according to the facts I presented, Canada beats the US of A...

btw cpov, look up the C-36 anti-terrorist act. It's not as bad as patriot, but it still potentially wrong.

If the RCMP has doubts about you, and they manage to convince a judge about it, they can arrest you and jail you without an immediate trial.

edit: local beer is better in Canada. Score.
edit2 : GO HABS GO!!! motherfuck.

True, Canada isn't perfect, but keep in mind that C-36 was pushed for by the USA.

Yeah, but at least they have to convince a judge, there is no such provision in the USA PATRIOT act.

Yeah, I'm not old enough to drink (15), but I do know this: American beer is like making love in a canoe. It's fucking close to water.

I have love for Canada. Serious. I've been there a handful of times, right over the border by Niagara Falls, and of course so many there are American kids, but Canada is sweet:

Beer, Casinos, appropriately younger drinking age, and of course, hockey!

Although, I must say, fuck the fucking Leafs. Darcy Tucker, Gary Roberts, Tie Domi, Bryan McCabe, and the rest of that mother fucking group can suck my dick. Fuck em.

- Love, an Islanders fan.

They've both got some cool stuff, and some crappy things as well.

Canadians are generally nicer, but you find a lot of good people in the US as well. So, it's hard to say.

We definely have a sick Administration now, but that will change...

Fuck no we shouldn't, and I'm damn glad Chretien said fuck off to Bush about Iraq and decided to go with the UN instead.
If you had the right administration, with no supremacy darkside-style objectives, then yeah, we could work togheter.

you mean the northern part of the USA??

canada? is that like upstate NY or something??
*evil sha-grin*

although you have some valid points may i remind you of the following...
  • canada's social healthcare system is so wonderful that people come to the US to get their major procedures done.
  • canada is so politically meek no one takes those silly canadians seriously.
  • canada doesn't have the business/ personal wealth ops the USA does
  • whether good or bad-every immigrant still would opt to live in the US if given the choice between the two countries.
  • canada's currency still lags the US's
  • if you venture outside of the major cities of canada, it's like being in redneck country.
  • most people think of canada last when it comes to everything. (traveling, tourism, arts, culture, fashion,...etc) canadians would like to believe they are more european, clearly if they are, they are very pale, pale shade.
  • what was the last earth shattering thing (invention, technology, medicine, financial, etc) that came out of canada?
  • canada's middle class (the majority of the country) enjoys a much lower standard of living than those in the US.
  • canadians pay 10% sales taxes on everything!
  • ...ah? why was your country THAT much better? tell me again, i just forgot the short list.
:p
