Why do people have this weird combination of annoyance and arrogance when people start to enjoy some

Thing they discovered way before the masses found out about it?

Seriously, what's up with that?

Smug people are to be ignored. Just enjoy the thing and worry not about them.

I'm actually the guy having these feelings towards people who suddenly jump on the bandwagon in droves but I'm sure there are those who feel the same way when I jump on their bandwagons. In any case, wondering about the psychology behind it, since apparently I'm not alone in this, there must be a reason why people feel this way.

In my opinion, this can be traced back to you (people in general, not you specifically) believing your parents when they implied you're a special snowflake. In my experience, I think I've found something unique and untouched only to have the masses flock to it, then it sheds light on the fact I'm no different than the next fleshy blob on two legs and it pisses me off. :(

But Gollum didn't seem to have any parents and yet continually treats the ring as his precious...

Well, at least with having thought up that response, I've discovered that I can relate to a fictional gremlin.

I am annoyed because I don't think you should get props for discovering a thing.

The talented artist/band does all the being awesome; putting your personal ownership on their work is stolen glory.

Gee, I wonder what would happen if something aiming for popularity and is definitely worthy of it never gets discovered. Hmmm...

Shonen Jump series just starting out don't get promoted much outside of their country, if any such promotions exist.

Of course we all know that cool guy selling Pokemon and Naruto magazine subscriptions. It's for his church.
