I don't know what the content was in the original post since it has been edited out, and I didn't feel like reading through the replies to find out. However, whatever it was, it was probably a relationship thing.
Me, on the other hand, had a real backstabbing done to me. I worked for an EDI software company for 3 years (due to the termination agreement I signed, I can't say its name). After about a year of working there, they hired a new person named Misty. Well.. over the remaining 2 years of my employment there, I thought Misty had become my friend. We'd rant to each other - mostly about work. She even invited me and my wife over to her house. Things seemed pretty secure in that department.
I was wrong. In September/October of 2002, Misty put in her 2-week notice. She was moving to a clerk job at a courthouse. On Friday, October 11, 2002, about 15 minutes after Misty had left (it was her final day), I was called into the General Manager's office. He had someone on speakerphone. It was one of the head people at the corporate headquarters in New York. I was terminated for "drug dealing". She (the person on the speakerphone) said I "couldn't talk my way out of this one".
It was later when I talked to one of the still-employed "friends" that I found out it was Misty who made the accusation. Isn't that nice? Get terminated due to an accusation by a "friend" who QUIT her job. First, does it make sense to believe someone who is on their way out the door? Second, WTF did I do to deserve that?!
My termination ended up landing me in 14 months of unemployment. That's over a year, people! Due to my physical "disabilities", I cannot take a manual labor job. It must be in an office. There were no office jobs to be found due to the technology bust. Where I used to be able to get an office job through a staffing agency within a week, I instead got "sorry, check back next week". It was only by a stroke of luck that I landed a job with a competitor of my former employer. That occurred this January.
Misty caused me to almost lose my house and everything else. I'm not even going to describe the chaos that happened last summer. So the next time you want to talk about backstabbing when it comes to friends screwing friends or whatever, think about how much it really matters down the road.
