My biggest problem is with the name.

"Dude do you want to go play XBox 360?"

"Yeah man XBox 360 is dope! Tight!"

"Dude let's go get stoned and play XBox 360!"

Horrible name.

PC > Xbox whatever.

I hardly play my Xbox now, I doubt I'll be jumping on the 360 any time soon.

PlayStation 3 will most likely be more powerful than X360. That and I've always seen the best thing MS ever had was Halo.

Revolution is more a matter of existence than combat.

P.S. Sorry for being gone for so long. I've spent the last 3 weeks seizing the day; whatever that means.

It looks nice, but what ever happened to innovation?

All I see these days is consoles that are the same as their predecessors - but infinitely faster.

All of this happened when Sega left the field, in my opinion. THEY WERE THE HARDWARE INDUSTRY'S DRIVING FORCE!

Sega's Innovations:

First true 16-Bit gaming system: Sega Genesis.
First system to feature parallel processing - Sega Genesis 32X.
First system to have built in 3D video - Sega Genesis 32X.
First system to have parallel video/CPU capabilities: Sega Saturn (They were hard to get to work, but they were there...).
First CD-ROM based system with integrated FMV (Full Motion Video) support: Sega CD
FIRST SYSTEM TO FEATURE ONLINE PLAY OUT OF THE BOX: Sega Dreamcast.
First system to support trilinear filtering for textures: Sega Dreamcast
First system to feature DirectX/WinCE compatability - Sega Dreamcast
The Visual Memory Unit - Sega Dreamcast
FIRST SYSTEM TO SUPPORT DYNAMIC LIGHTING - Sega Dreamcast
FIRST AND ONLY SYSTEM TO SUPPORT 3D GLASSES: Sega Master System

Nintendo's Innovations:

First system to have a GPU capable of rendering arcade-perfect graphics: NES/Famicom

First 64-Bit machine: Nintendo 64

First system capable of mipmapping: Nintendo 64

First system with a wavetable synthesizer: SNES/Super Famicom

Sony's innovations:

First system to support DVD Playback: PlayStation 2

First system to have a dual analog stick controller - PlayStation 1

Microsoft's innovations:

First console with a hard drive: Xbox

First console hardware compatible with x86 computers: Xbox

TALLY TIME!

Sega: 11
Valueable innovations.

Nintendo: 4
Valueable innovations.

Sony: 2
Valueable innovations.

Microsoft: 2
Valueable innovations.

If I buy a new console, I want it to do more as well be faster, as would a PC. And I do not see anyone doing that :(.

I know I love Sega but I am far from a fanboy - I appreciate all systems and software, but I feel Sega was infinitely better in the first department, and sometimes in the second.

I guess graphics always take a backseat to gameplay with you guys .

The Genesis has one of the best libraries ever.

Enjoy your future 1983-style gaming crash. I'm avoiding all the new consoles until the libraries have something that hasn't been done twnety times over...

You know, there used to be this thing called innovation, but greed killed it. Check out Doom 1/2, Virtua Racing, Descent, etc. to see what I mean.

You're just stuck in the 90s, which is odd, because you weren't even old enough to remember them that well.

Just a thought, Descent, no offense intended (well not too much anyways...) :p

Descent, I'm not sure if anyone else said something about this but do me a favor.

Shut the fuck up about Sega. If Sega was so damn fantastic, they would still have their own console. The one or two games that went somewhere apparently weren't enough to keep the company going.

Havok, that's so true. Sega made a few decent games, but always failed at the console market. Now they're just making game, and their games are marginal at best. Sega is dead.

Nostalgia is cool, but you really don't have to mention it in every single post, troll people's replies and generally be a fanboy. Just shut up for once, and not shit on threads.

Listen to me! We are LITERALLY on the verge of another 1983. There hasn't been an innovative idea in ages, and I can not tell you how much I'm SICK of playing first person shooters. There has NOT been an effort to rewrite the formula since Daikatana.

GAME DEVEOPERS RANT ON THE BROKEN STATE OF THE INDUSTRY

Junglizm, all I have to say is this: I'm not working in the industry, and I have been seeing this demise for a while now. Game quality is decreasing, innovation is gone, and we're playing the same bullshit over and over - this is EXACTLY what happened on the brink of the 1983 crash.

If you want proof we're broken, read up on Electronic Arts. The company is nothing like the developer haven Trip Hawkins had when he was CEO - it has become a sweatshop.

Keep living in your fantasy world, thinking everything is alright, when if you read up on the guts of the industry as much as I do, your heart will sink.

I am running out to Gamestop tomorrow and I will burn $40 ON GENESIS AND SNES GAMES - BECAUSE I NEED SOMETHING THAT I HAVEN'T PLAYED IN SOME FORM OR ANOTHER FIFTEEN TIMES.

Descent, I'm tired of you shitting on every single thread you reply to. What's so hard to understand about this being an XBOX thread? Nobody cares about Sega except you, shut up.

Take a few days off from the interweb, go preach about Sega over at 4chan or whatever. Just shut up.

How would you know? You weren't even alive in 1983! Whoever got you hooked on these old school games needs to be shot. There are some quality games that are fun to go back and play, but if you're a hardcore gamer, then you need to broaden your horizon. Try something new.

Or do you just play these old school games because they're easy, and the new stuff is too difficult?

Apologies for crapping up this thread with Sega nonsense.

Continue on topic.

As for the release of the X-Box 360... I'm not hyped at all. I'd prefer PC or my Playstation 2.

I'm not hyped up for the xbox 360 either,
I'd rather go with the PC or the ps2.

Heres a funny statement from Descent.
jimmystager: My friend is in to BDSM, so I'm gonna give her the roughest sex ever.
jimmystager: She's gonna become addicted.
jimmystager: Dude, I'm in to that too, except I'm the dominator.

Actually the Genesis was an extremly well system. It had some of the best games around and was extremly fun.

The story lines and games were well thought out and it game ideas came from a wide varitity of people. Stuck in the 1990's I am not... In love with my Sega, I am... The fall of sega is really a suprise to be honest but eh... I just want some better games to start being realesed where i don't have to keep buying more and more systems

Most of the systems are just miner upgrades

No I play them because there was a lot of varity to the game and a lot to explore...

The games that were simple were done in a fun way....

1) If you dont like FPS, then dont play them. As I've suggested before, go masturbate anime porn and play some RTS or mmoRPG.

2) The gaming industry is VERY diverse. There is a game genre for EVERY person. You can't tell me that The Sims and Unreal Tournament 2004 are alike in ANY way.

3) Lack of innovation? Hardly. Since the early 90s, more and more game titles have been released. We aren't OUT of ideas, we're just refining the ideas we have. The reason people dont get tired of playing "the same old shit over and over again" is because they like the game type. Graphics have become AMAZING in a short period of 6 years (ex: Half Life 1 vs HL2). Speaking technically, we have processing power that allows programmers to create detailed environments so surreal that it's sometimes hard to tell what's reality and what's fantasy. Game engines have become much more stable as well. But back to my point: You can make 1000 maps or you can make 10 maps for Counterstrike Source, a game I love...I'll still sit there and play it for hours because it's what I like to fuckin do. I think most people would agree; just play the genre that suites you.

4) If you aren't entertained by the premesis of video games anymore, then pick up a new hobby. If you've gotten to the point where you play so many games that it just makes you mad because there isn't much variation between what you play, you might need to either find something new or vary your choices.

Sorry for the long post...I was just completely in disagreement that you think the gaming industry has lost it's innovation. That's just bullshit.
